Margao: The Shadow Council for Margao on Friday held a protest at the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, at the closing of Ward Covid at the facility.
Led by the Shadow Council Convener Savio Coutinho, the protesters demanded that the Covid ward with the minimum number of beds arranged for the benefit of patients from South Goa.
Coutinho told reporters that while Hospicio’s shift to the new district hospital was clearly a welcome step, the closure of the Covid Ward was not acceptable.
“The reason quoted for closing is the fewer covid patients who are looking for entry.
Does it mean that positive covid patients from South Goa have to suffer because the health department found it to be a burden to manage the Covid ward at the South Goa District Hospital?” Said Coutinho.
By stating that he received a call on Friday morning seeking assistance for 90-year-old people who tested Covid’s positive, Coutinho said he was amazed to learn on the question that the district hospital had closed in covid patients there.
“How much discomfort is possible for this patient to travel to Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital, Bambolim, can be imagined,” he said.
