Second village girl at the National Athletics event

By- Akshay Doddamani Hubballi: A 15-year-old girl from Mugali Village in the Dharwad district has secured a silver medal in a 400m race at a national athletic meeting held by the central government in Delhi recently.
Priyanka Okekar is studying in class 10 in and remains in the hostel run by the Department of Work and Sports Youth.
He has won a victory at various sporting events, and the latest comes at the event detained by the Indian Athletics Federation at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Delhi).
He was given a gold medal in the Mini Olympic game at 400m and 600 m races held in Bengaluru in 2020 by the Karnataka Olympic Association and the Department of Youth and Sports Empowerment.
He has stood in second place in the 800m race in 36 Junior Athletics met at Assam, and fifth in the national cross-country championship in Chandigarh.
Speaking of Priyanka’s performance over the past five years, his coach Shamala Patil said: “He has won seven national medals even from rural background and facing financial problems.” Prakash Sarashetti, Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, said he had made their sports school proud of bagging medals.
“We will provide facilities in the future too, so he can win more national level competitions,” he said.
He Pastor Madivallappa Okekar works as a driver at BRTS.
He said: “I have four daughters, and they have all participated in state and national level events.
I am happy with the 400m Priyanka achievement in Delhi.
He has made our village proud of securing the second place.
