Some of these land packages will now be converted into art and science science and magnificent shopping center.
Premium land has been rented to different parties for decades.
The HR & CE department took over land parcels between June and October this year.
While litigation was filed by its residents in the presence of Madras High Court on Temple Temple, the court decided to support the temple.
Armed with the direction of the court, the HR department & CE quickly took land parcels worth `936 crore.
Among the first land parcels taken in mid-June were higher secondary schools spread over 32 reasons.
HR & CE drives ended with 39 reasons carried more than two weeks ago.
Most encroachment occupies the ground without paying rent for several years.
The department plans to change the school campus into an education center by adding an arts and college science which tends to start functioning from the next academic year.
The dilapidated colonial heritage structure will be destroyed to make a way for new facilities.
The retail commercial complex is also proposed on campus in the area of two hectares.
Commissioner of HR and CE J Kumaraguraran said the property would be maintained by the temple, and the developer would not have the right to the land.
“HR & CE will not make investment in construction.
This is a joint venture based on income distribution,” he said.
Some developers and sales agents say land package can easily accommodate a four-story shopping complex with 42,000 sqft on each floor or commercial office space up to 20 floors.
“This land is perfect for hospitals,” said Srinivas Anikipatti, Senior Director of Knight Frank India (Tamil Nadu and Kerala).
