Guwahati: The Indian Election Commission has issued a notice to the Head of Minister of Assam Himanta Buswa Sarma who is looking for an explanation for violating the Code of Conduct Model (MCC) during campaigning in five assembly constituencies in the state.
The Commission has asked Sarma to submit the answer at 5 pm on Tuesday.
The commission notification was based on complaints by Debabrata Saikia, leader of the Opposition Congress in the Assembly, and Bhupen Kumar Borah, President of the State Congress.
They accused Sarma has made several announcements at various election meetings held in Bhabanipur, Thowrah and Magawan Assembly Assembly to establish medical colleges, bridges, roads, secondary schools, stadiums, sports complexes, etc.
They further accused the announcement to provide financial assistance to help the Self-Group of Tea Garden workers and for development projects in elections.
