Pune: The Estate Defense (DEO) office has given permission to Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to cut 502 full trees along the river in Khadki Cantonment to provide a way for the construction of the approach to Bopkhel Bridge and develop allied infrastructure.
In accordance with the conditional nod of the Ministry of Defense for the construction of the bridge, PCMC is expected to build an underpass, security guard towers, and other facilities around the bridge across the river that will connect the village of Bopkhel to the old Pune-Mumbai highway in Dapodi.
PCMC requires an area of 16.122sqm for this purpose and has submitted a proposal for cutting trees to facilitate construction.
“These trees stand close to the base workshop of the 512 army.
They are not planted.
They grow on the banks of the river in recent years,” said a senior Deo official.
“Khadki Station Commander first gave sanctions to cut trees.
As a condition for this, PCMC has planted 60,000 trees in training BATALYON 2 from the Bombay Engineering Group Center for the past two years.
In addition, the Civic body has also deposited around RS39 lakh from the cost of trees With us.
Now, the department of the garden will clean the area needed for this job.
Therefore there is no defense infrastructure in the area so that no further permission is needed for this, “said a senior official from Deo.
Srikant Save, City Engineer with PCMC, told TII on Monday, “We have asked the contractors appointed to carry out the geotechnical investigation of the area.
This exercise is very important to understand the physical and chemical properties of soil, which will help make recommendations for the foundation requirements, etc.
It will be done soon on the site by the expert team.
