Greater Noida: Gautam Buddh Police Nagar, Monday, arrested two people to rob commuters in Greater Noida after offering them a ride in a car or motorcycle.
The defendant, identified as Mohammad Imran (25) and Mohammad Nadeem (26), both Surajpur residents in Greater Noida, allegedly introducing themselves as government officials to gain public trust.
The police realized their activities after receiving complaints on November 24 from one of the victims, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Bulandshahr.
“Kumar stated that he had come to Greater Noida for some work related to property – he reached Pari Chowk around 4:15 to catch the bus back to Bulandshahr.
A suspect to reach the motorcycle and ask where he left,” Vishal Pandey, addition Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Greater Noida, said.
Kumar in his complaint further said that the suspect told him that he would also be bulandshahr.
“In the time there were other maids arrived there and encouraged him to get a motorcycle like they would go to the same place.
On the way, the suspect told the victim that they were government officials and took their cellphones and wallets.
They even asked for a debit card pin, “Pandey said.
The suspects allegedly told Kumar that they would make the entry of his valuables in their office.
However, they dropped him at the bus stop near the P3 sector and escaped with valuables, police said.
“Then, the two suspects cheated withdrawing Rs 81,694 from Kumar’s account.
After complaints, we noted the case against unknown people under Section 420 (cheating) from Indian Criminal Code,” Pandey said.
On Monday, the police received information that the suspect was near Pari Chowk.
A police team rushed to that place and stopped Maruti Suzuki Baleno to check.
“We found Rs 53,500 in cash, one countrymade weapon, two cartridges they had,” Pandey said.
Based on the details together by the defendant, the police then searched for their hiding place and found two stolen motorbikes, two microwaved ovens, four pairs of shoes, two watches, etc.
The police claimed to have solved five cases with the arrest of the defendant.
Both were produced before the court and had been sent to prison.
