Rajkot: The number of people infected with Omicron rose to three with two close relatives of the 72-year-old man from Jamnagar testing the new Covid-19 variant on Friday.
The wife and brother-in-law’s man, who had returned from Zimbabwe last week, was also tested positive for the new strain, the official source said.
His wife had returned with him from Zimbabwe and his brother-in-law went to receive a partner at Ahmedabad.
Omicron has been classified as a ‘variant of worries’ by the World Health Organization (WHO) after being first detected in South Africa last month.
Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials said the 72-year-old NRI relatives were sent for the genome sequencing at the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center (GBRC) in Gandhinagar and the results were received on Friday.
Vijay Kharadi, Commissioner of the City of Jamnagar, said, “The three patients were being treated at a tooth hospital and all clinical conditions were stable.
A medical team continued to monitor their health.” Other members of this family have tested negative and seven students, who took tuition fees from One family member, has also been tested negatively.
The GG Hospital managed by the government in Jamnagar has created a special 400-bed facility in a tooth hospital to treat omicron variants of patients with ICU and oxygen infrastructure.
Meanwhile, 11 other people were tested positive for Covid-19 in Jamnagar on Friday.
This is among 177 people who have attended the wedding of industrialist men based in Jaipur.
In the past three days, a total of 27 people have been found infected.
The JMC health team identified those who attended a wedding soon after the industrialist family was tested positively and isolated them and everyone was being tested.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation has started a random fast antigen test in five public places such as bus stations and markets.
JMC also asked the police to be tight on mask violations in public places.
The number of marriages in the city is also a matter of worries now for the authority of citizenship.
