Panaji: Even when their schools and laboratories have been closed and cannot be accessed for the past two years because of a pandemic, thousands of students have the opportunity to be involved in educational experiments by building rockets, telescopes and even harvesting rain.
For three days at the India International Science Festival (IISF), students tried physics, mathematics, and even aerospace techniques.
“The mass assembly of such gadgets or replica building models is something we have never experienced before,” said the class VII Kanishka Ninawe.
“Even though it is something that can be done from home by watching YouTube videos, simply see everyone who works simultaneously very exciting.” “I can observe other people around me and follow the step-by-step process better.” Class XI students from 11 different schools from Goa assembled the Gaganyan rocket model kit on Saturday.
This was then tested to be launched at Panjim Gymkhana Grounds.
In addition, class VII and VIII students from Goa and from 125 cities throughout India, who joined this session virtually, building a rainwater harvesting model and water purification on Sundays.
“Water is a rare resource for all of us, and conservation, reuse and recycling of water is very important,” said class VIII Aryan students rose.
“The ground water level is very low, therefore harvesting rain, purifying and collecting it is very important.
It can be used for gardening, flush toilets, and other domestic needs.” Other students, Shraddha rose, hoping that the activities he did at the festival could Replicated or adopted in their academics.
“It would be better if our school could have practical activities like this that educated and fun,” he said.
On Monday, another batch of 1,000 students will build a replica of the giant telescope radio plates.
The semi-can models will consist of dishes made of 30 laser cut raw materials for assembly.
“The goal of IISF is to take science to the community and society.
Therefore the children show that even rocket science is not a big challenge for us because of complex design, complex raw materials and very technical skills, they can learn it in the shortest possible time , “said Prashant Kodgire, faculty in Iit Indore and coordinator for IISF activities.
