Greater Noida: Fastag facility was launched in two more lanes of the Toll Plaza Shares at Yamuna Expressway on Wednesday.
While some commuters were not aware of the launch, many others demanded the right signage to help them identify all the fastaging paths.
Vipin Kumar, who was driving towards Mathura from Delhi, told Ti that when he realized that the Lanes Fastag began on the toll road, he thought that the facility was limited to two lanes.
“Readers flashing in the fourth Lane said that it was a cash path.
The signs must clearly say that it is the fastaging path now,” he said.
Rajkumar, another commuter, welcomed the increase in the number of fastaging paths and demanded that all eight paths have to be activated by RFID so that weekend jam in Plaza is avoided.
“I traveled to Agra through a toll road every week.
I was always trapped in long jam, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, when the volume of traffic was high.
With Fastag facilities launched, I hope it ends now,” he said.
A toll official said that they hoped to launch the Fastag facility in all lanes in early January.
“At present, half of the traffic passing through the toll road using lane fastag.
This has greatly reduced traffic pressure.
On average, the traffic passing through the toll road on weekdays is around 16,000.
However, on Saturday and Sunday, the same top up to around 22,000.
This will help reduce the traffic pressure in the Toll Plaza Shared, “he said.
When contacted, Santosh Pawar, Jaypee’s operation head, concession holder, told TI that the launch of the Fastag facility would result in a reduction in Snarls from this Saturday itself.
“Congestion, if any, will end.
We hope to launch a Fastag facility on all eight lanes at the end of December.
Signage will also be displayed,” he said.
