'Strategic Friction': US Builds Tools to Predict China's Action
Written by news2in

Honolulu: The US Military Commander in the Pacific has built software tools to predict how the Chinese government will react to the US actions in the region such as military sales, US-backed military activities, and even Congress visits to hotspots such as Taiwan.
Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks was complained by new tools during a visit to the United States Indo-Pacific command in Hawaii on Tuesday.
This tool calculates “strategic friction,” said a defense official.
It looked at data since the beginning of 2020 and evaluated significant activities that affected US-SINO relations.
Computer-based systems will help the Pentagon predict whether certain actions will trigger an outsized Chinese reaction.
In October, the Chinese military condemned the United States and Canada for each of them sent warships through the Taiwan Strait, said they threatened peace and stability in the region.
The incident and the other like triggered a demand for this tool, said US officials, to ensure the United States did not accidentally disappoint China with its actions.
While the relationship between the United States and China has been at low points, this tool provides visibility in various activities such as Congress visits to Taiwan, sales of weapons to allies in the region, or when several US boats sailing through the Taiwan Strait can provoke a tremendous Chinese reaction or unwanted.
China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its own territory, and has installed a repeat air force mission to the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone (Adiz) over the past year, provoking anger in Taipei.
New software will allow US officials to look forward to the planned action for the past four months, the official said.
