Nagpur: Environmental lovers have voiced concern for damage caused by the construction of twin twin wisdom on Jalan Amravati.
According to them, around five-to-six inheritance trees are expected to block the overpass the four paths that will begin with the bridge above Nullah on Jalan Amravati in front of RTO and the land before the traffic signal at the University Square Campus.
The National Highway Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) was reported to have submitted a proposal to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Department.
“We have asked them to submit a detailed plan report and also the number of trees that need to be cut.
After that, the Department of Gardens will conduct a survey,” NMC official said.
Speaking with Toi, National Highway Division officials said they would ensure minimum damage was carried out on the existing green cover.
“We have identified trees and our estimates are that we don’t need to cut a lot of them because there are dividers where the flyover foundation will come.
We will only cut the trees that will cause danger to commuting, if not, we must trim some branches, “They said.
Environmental activists, however, have part of their worries.
“Wild it must be designed so that the city’s green cover is thinning not damaged, especially the ancient trees must remain untouched.
There are sustainable architects who are willing to save trees when designing infrastructure.
It’s time for the authorities to change their approach and move towards sustainable development , “said Green Anasuya Kale-Chhabrani activist.
Activists added that before planning these projects, feasibility studies needed to be done.
“The symbol is being built, but where is the traffic assessment report? In addition, a common survey must be carried out together with NMC and third parties to assess environmental damage that leads to these projects.
When we fight against the climate crisis, all efforts must be made To save any green cover remaining in the city.
And for this, the authorities must take guidance from experts, “Activist Wasudev Mishra said.
