Bengaluru: A passenger was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport with two golden sticks worth more than the RS 45.8 lakh hidden in the Manual Juicer engine, which he brought from Sharjah, UAE on Tuesday morning.
Customs sleuth catches it and seizes the golden bar weighing 930 grams.
According to sources with Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) Bengaluru Customs, smuggling efforts opened at 2.50 am after the Arabia G9 496 flight from Sharjah touched in Bengaluru.
After passenger profile, the customs team intercepted a 33-year-old man, who got off the flight.
He is from Uttar Pradesh.
After being questioned, it was unclear why he chose to land in Bengaluru instead of the airport in his home country.
The man was found carrying a blue compact manual juicer, which he brought from the UAE.
Suspicious, the absence of customs clearance to discover juicers to find two gold stems, one small and one large, hidden inside the silver pipe machine.
According to sources, the smuggled gold is worth Rs 45.81,180.
The suspect was arrested and ordered for gold smuggling and customs avoidance.
Further probes are set if he acts alone or as part of a global smuggling syndicate.
