Chennai: Police police who drove a friend of a friend crashed into an old man sitting outside his home in Virugambakkam on Sunday night, killing him in place.
A test found that the police, Ranjith Kumar, 32, from Alwarthhirunagar were not drunk at the time.

They tried to hit him when he told them that he was a police officer.
Residents assume the police are under the influence of alcohol and warn the police.
A police team investigating Pondy Bazaar traffic arrived at the place and the police experienced a test to find out if he was drunk.
After that it was revealed that he was not drunk, he was ordered under the relevant parts of the IPC and arrested.
A witness then told the police that Shankar came out of the temple just five minutes before the accident with Prasadam.
Many in this area usually sit outside their homes at night for fresh air, he said.
