New York: The head of Antonio Gutres UN on Monday warned that the Covid-19 pandemic was not the last of its kind and that people had to take steps to prevent such a crisis in the future.
“Covid19 will not be the last humanitarian pandemic to be faced.
When we respond to this health crisis, we need to prepare for the next.
On the international day of this epidemic preparedness, let’s give this problem focus, attention and decent investment,” said Secretary General UN, Guterres in a tweet.
The first day of the international epidemic readiness was marked on December 27 last year after the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the need to advocate for the need for preparedness and prevention of epidemics.
During the press briefing last week, the Director General had warned that covid-19 blankets the booster program vaccine could extend pandemic and increase injustice.
“There is no country that can increase the way out of the pandemic,” said Head of Tedro Adhanom Ghebreyesus, spoke in Geneva during his last press direction for this year.
“And Booster cannot be seen as a ticket to continue the planned celebration, without the need for other precautions,” he added.
The WHO strategic advisory group about immunization (SAGE) has published a temporary guidance at a booster dose, expressing concern that mass programs for countries that can afford it, will worsen vaccine injustice.
Reflecting last year, Tedros reported that more people died because of Covid-19 in 2021 than from HIV, malaria and tuberculosis combined, in 2020.
Coronavirus killed 3.5 million people this year, and continued to claim around 50,000 lives every week .
