Chennai: A speeding car driven by a drunk man running on a new woman who just married at Kancheepuram on Monday.
The woman died in the hospital one hour later.
The deceased, Geetha Priya, stood outside the pharmacy waiting for her husband when the car hit him, police said.
Geetha married Manikandan, 30, from Semmangudi Village in the Tiruvannamalai district.
Both are bank employees and come to Chennai to celebrate the new year.
They stopped at a medical store in Rangasamykulam.
While Manikandan entered the pharmacy to buy medicines, Geethapriya stood outside the store.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the car was fast and hit the autorickshaw and two other vehicles before crashing into Geetha.
The passer who witnessed the accident managed to pull it out of the rear wheel of the car.
He rushed to the Kancheepuram government hospital, where he gave up on injury.
The doctor said he suffered a severe head injury.
The police ordered the driver of the car, Madhan, from Kancheepuram because it caused death from negligence.
He was also ordered to drive with speed and rash.
Ewewitness has destroyed the driver before handing it to the police, which then postponed him on a medical test and found it under the influence of alcohol.
The drunk driver told the police that he lost control of his car to avoid hitting biker.
