Panaji: The Ministry of Health has set a target of vaccination around 1 lakh children in the age group 15-18 years from January 3.
Vaccination will be carried out at the school place with parents’ approval.
This department tends to know on Tuesday the name of the vaccine will be provided by the center to vaccinate children, said Director, Dr.
Ira Almeida.
Other modalities are arranged to be done in the next two to three days because the health department starts vaccination.
The state has not received a vaccine dose to be given to the new target population while adequate shares are available to carry out ordinary Covid vaccinations, District Immunization Officers Dr.
Rajendra Borkar.
The Ministry of Health also prepares to manage a booster dose with a qualified population from January 10 and so on.
“We want to manage a booster dose to around 40,000 health care workers and front lines,” Borrow said.
Until now, he said, around 93% of the population had been fully vaccinated and every day, on average, around 3,000 people were vaccinated with the second dose and around 500 to 600 with the first dose.
Those who will vaccinate now are newly recruited hotel industry staff or those who have fulfilled the requirements after the completion of 18 years, he said.
It also includes those who hold back to not vaccinated before because of various reasons, he said.
Until Monday, the number of people who were vaccinated some stood at 1.8 lakh.
Borkar said they did not have a plan to do a special drive to vaccinate children or to manage a booster dose with a qualified population.
“We will have a vaccination of a booster dose in health centers as carried out regularly,” said Borkar.
