Sydney: Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Serbian team for the ATP Cup in Sydney, said the event organizer on Wednesday, increasing further doubts about whether the number one world will defend the Australia open title next month.
There was an intense speculation on Djokovic’s participation in both events, with the 34-year-old player who opposed Covid-19 vaccination, repeatedly refused to say whether he had been inoculated against the virus.
The Australian Open organizer, which began on January 17, has determined that all participants must be vaccinated against the Coronavirus or have a medical exception given by an independent expert panel.
“Novak Djokovic has been officially drawn from the ATP Cup in Sydney, we do not have an update because it is planned for Australia Open,” Australian tennis spokesman said in a statement sent by email.
“Regarding the medical liberation process, which is related to all players, there is a strict and independent process in place.
Like all medical information subject to confidentiality.” Global Tennis Men who set ATP did not immediately respond to a comment request.
The ATP Cup organizer said the Serbian team will now be led by world number 33 Dusan Lajovic.
Because of the current world ranking Djokovic, Serbia received the top bill for the 16 team events, which operated from January 1-9, and has been withdrawn in Group A with Norway, Chile and Spain.
Djokovic has won a record of nine Australian open titles, including the last three, and in a three-way tie in 20 major titles with Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal in the list of all time.
His father Srdjan told Serbia television channels last month that Djokovic might attract NL4N2SK0VQ from the department, said Australian Tennis Stance in mandatory vaccination was the same as “extortion”.
The ATP Cup opening season also saw Austria, which failed the feasibility criteria after withdrawal of Dominic Thiem and Dennis Novak, was replaced by France.
Russia, who won the 2021 title, will disappear Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev from the team.
