Kolkata: Moving to carry out easily accessible checks, the Bengali government has decided to hold a population-based health camp on the site of Sarkar from next month.
Camps will focus on screening for hypertension, diabetes and oral cancer in those above 30.
For other age groups, there will be filtering for visual problems, TB for those who have symptoms, etc.
District administration and health officials have also been told to arrange vaccination camps on the site if needed.
“This initiative will help us understand the burden of several temporary diseases while patients will receive care without delay,” said a health official.
“Non-communicable diseases are one of the main causes of death in India and they are minimally handled throughout the country, especially in rural areas.

While experts call this welcome initiative, they say mobilizing labor can be a big task.
District health officials have been told to involve Asha workers other than medical officers.
“The main diagnosis and provision of regular operating drugs and procedures must be carried out at the local health facility.
But this will allow us to detect the submerged part of the iceberg,” said Public Health Expert Asis Manna, MSVP at ID & BG Hospital Belaghata.
District officials have also been told to submit weekly reports in Duare health camps.
A format has been shared with details such as the number of camps owned, head count, disease detected, etc.
