Miami: Cricketers Ireland Paul Stirling and Shane Getkate have tested positive Covid-19 and started quarantine 10 days mandatory because the team prepared to face West Indies.
The Irish national team announced Thursday that the Duo returned a positive test and isolated in the United States, where three days international one day (ODI) was summoned due to Covid-19 worries.
The Irish squad is scheduled to depart Florida on Friday for Jamaica, where the Three Series ODI followed by a T20 contest will begin January 8 at Sabina Park.
The isolated players tend to rejoin the Ireland lineup around January 9 if they return the negative Covid-19 test results with George Dockrell which has been cleaned Thursday after isolation and approved to travel with the team on Friday.
“This is a challenging time for all, but the players have responded very well to operate in the environment that is managed for the past two weeks,” said Richard Holdsworth, Director of High Performance Cricket Ireland.
“We have a squad that is extended with us on this tour, so it will be able to overcome this absence that doesn’t wait for the outbreak further.” Ireland worked with Cricket West Indies on Covid-19 protection steps in Kingston.
Andrew Balbirnie and Andy McBrine, who were previously registered as close contact of positive cases and isolating, the possibility of joining the squad in Jamaica after Sunday, provided they gave a negative test.
Harry Tector and Gareth Delan have finished quarantine and will travel to Jamaica.
