Omicron threat: Kamrup-metro focuses on street residents

Guwahati: Kecatrupup Regency Government (Metro) has begun to identify Ragpickers and Dwellers Street through several methods, including conscious camps, so they can adopt steps to ensure security amid omicron threats.
Deputy District Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said, “We constantly place efforts to identify Ragpickers and Dwellers Street to register in government records through the e-Shram portal.” According to research reports, the number of Ragpickers in our country is estimated to be nearly 4 million and their contributions to activities Our economy is around Rs 3,200 Crore.
In Assam, Guwahati has more than 15,000 to 20,000 ragpickers.
Most of them live on the sidewalk, the train station platform or bus stop.
Aearlier this year, the district administration has taken the initiative to test Covid-19 and provide vaccines to Ragpickers and Dwellers Street.
This was done after TI had discussed the problem of marginalized parts.
