France urged green habits with new car advertisements, prohibition on plastic

Written by news2in

Paris: There are no plastic packaging around fruits and vegetables and car advertisements that promote running and riding instead of driving: In 2022, French customers will be encouraged to adopt habits that are more environmentally friendly under a series of new regulations.
The steps promoted by the Government of President Emmanuel Macron was intended to reduce pollution and the impact of the car on greenhouse gas emissions.
Start Saturday, leeks and carrots, tomatoes and potatoes, apples and pears and about 30 other items will no longer be sold with plastic.
Instead, they must be wrapped in other recycled materials.
Plastics will still be permitted for fragile fruits such as fruit and peaches, but are gradually prohibited in the coming years.
The government said new regulations are expected to eliminate around 1 billion items of plastic waste per year.
Other magazines and publications also need to be sent without plastic wrappers, and fast food restaurants will no longer be allowed to offer free plastic toys to children.
In the coming year, French car advertisements will be asked to enter messages that encourage people to consider greener transportation.
Starting from March, they must mention one of three messages: “For short trips, prefer to walk or cycling,” “Think about Carpooling” or “every day, take public transportation.” The transportation sector in France is responsible for around 31% of greenhouse gas emissions.
