New Delhi: Maharashtra has been looking for the intervention of the Coal Ministry in obtaining forest licenses for the Chhattisgarh government coal block allocated for its power plant in the Vidarbha region, becoming the second country to knock on the middle door of the mining obstacle in a state of the third-largest coal deposit.
Mahagenco (Maharashtra State Power Plant) MD Sanjay Kharahe last week wrote to Coal Secretary Anil Jain, saying the utility has fulfilled the requirements for forest transfer for the Batubara Block Gare Palma-II in October 2021 but the state government has not sent a recommendation for the forest cleaning of the stage forest to center.
Kharare asked the ministry to intervene in this case as an important initial permit to start the production of the block, located in the Raipur District of Chhattisgarh, at the time limit of October 2023.
This is an example of the second delay faced by the owner of the coal blocking in Chattisgarh.
As reported by Toi, Rajasthan was the first to knock on the central doors over the Chhattisgarh government delayed permission to start two new mines and increased the production of the other two allocated to Rajasthan.
When the two countries have the Congress in the office, the Chief of the Minister Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot enhanced this issue to the President of the Sonia Gandhi Party after his letters to Chhattisgarh Mitra Bhupesh Bages, looking for fast action.
Block Gare Palma-II was awarded in August 2015 to Mahagenco to trigger the Koradi, Chandrapur-8 power plant, the largest generation complex in the state vidarbha area.
Blocks have a peak annual production capacity of more than 23 million tons.
Mahagenco has submitted a forest application in 2016 for 214 hectares of forest land.
But the application cannot be processed because of the unavailability of government land for compensation afforestation.
The utility reworked the mine limit, obtained private land to reforest and submit details to the District Forest Authority in September last year.
The district authorities freed the forest transfer proposal and forward it to the state government in October to recommend my stage approval to the Forest Department and the Union Environment.
