Chennai: A total of eight departments from IIT Madras including machine engineering, electrical engineering, collaborating design techniques to launch the Interdisciplinary Master Program (MS) on electric vehicles.
Students pursue BTECH Third year and Dual Degree can enroll for this program from January 2022.
Initial intake is expected to be 25 students.
They graduated from this program will have skillsets for work in developing electric vehicle products including electrical vehicle integration, aggregate engineering vehicles, communication and calibration, verification and validation, product and portfolio planning.
“The engineering design department will anchor program.
In the coming years, we hope to have more programs with different structures in e-mobility space, “said T Askan, engineering design department, IIT-M.The course content has been curated to build a deep enough in each domain from Basics of vehicles for EV aggregate, including batteries and motorbikes.
“Students will undergo a core program that will build the foundation for eV engineering and then, they will pursue choices in certain areas of their choice.
They will also do a project in this domain.
Students can both choose to work industry or pursue further research, “said Professor C Shankar Ram, engineering department, IIT Madras.
“This is an interesting time for the Emobility sector.
IIT Madras is now starting this phase where formal programs for electric vehicles and emobilities are offered with the involvement very close to the industry, “said Professor Karthick Athmanathan, professor of practices at IIT Madras.
