Coimbatore: Thudiangur police arrested two guest workers for trying to open an automatic teller machine (ATM) from the Indian state bank in Rakipipalayam on Monday morning.
The arrest was identified as Chandra Sekhar Bhue, 24, and Brindhavan Bagarthi, 26, both of them came from Tamparsara Taluk from the Bargarh district in Odisha.
They worked as many men in a personal distillation unit here for the past three months.
The duo lives in a company hostel in Rakkipalayam.
Thudiangur police said the duo was not permitted in a dormitory while drunk.
So, they walked towards the main road and watched the ATM.
One of them tried to withdraw cash from the ATM, which was broken.
In anger, they damaged the engine and allegedly tried to steal cash from him.
Meanwhile, the SBI Mumbai office received a warning about the break-in and reminded the Police of Periyanenickalayam.
Jaganathan Sub-Inspector, Prabhakaran, Tilak and the team rushed to the ATM and found two duos near the kiosk.
The police took the duo and checked CCTV recordings taken from the ATM center.
The police confirmed the identity of the duo and registered the case against them under Section 457, 380 read with 511 from the Indian criminal code.
They were returned in the custody of the judiciary and were submitted in a sub-prison pollachi.
