New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court who remembered the Covid surge, it would not insist on being in the physical appearance of people in connection with the probe of Amazon subsidiaries under Foreign Exchange Management Law (FEMA).
Guarantee coming by additional Public Lawyers (ASG) SV Raju, appearing for the Petisian Central Agency by Amazon Wholesale (India) and Amazon seller services, challenging ed jurisdiction and its officers to investigate with the Amazon arbitration with the future of the group.
Judge Rekha Palli registered a case to hear further on January 12 and asked for a senior lawyer for the agency to “advise officers that if they want any information, they will do it through video conferencing”.
“Because Covid, we will hold our hands (on physical appearance),” convincing ASG.
The court said it “will not comment” on information sought by institutions in an investigation or asking an agent to “hold his hand” in terms of inquiry.
Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra appeared for Amazon Wholesale, argued that Ed’s education was outside the scope of its power under FEMA and could not seek details in connection with the legal opinion sought by the company.
He clarified that his client had nothing to do with an agreement between Amazon and the Future, and urged the court to direct the agency to hold his hand until the next hearing date.
