Yes, AI Amazon’s voice assistant is traveling into space, above NASA ORION ROCKET.
This launch was reportedly scheduled for the end of this year as part of the Lunar Artemis I Crewess Mission.
According to a report on CNET, the accompanying Alexa will be a webex, Cisco video conference software.
Alexa and Webex will be part of the payload Orion, Callisto.
The idea is to test software solutions with a virtual crew at the Johnson Space Center, Houston.
The virtual crew will try to communicate with and issue orders to AI’s assistant.
The command will be sent through the deep NASA space network, which consists of a giant radio antenna used for communication during the space mission.
Webex is being considered for video conferencing with land control, other crew and people returning to earth.
“Star Trek’s computer is part of the original vision for Alexa,” the report quoted Aaron Rubenson, Amazon Alexa vice president.
“To build an ambient intelligence form that helps when you need it, then fade.
So it really matches the way we think has the potential to expand this technology.” Alexa will have control of the lights in the cockpit and can control it without the need to command into the flight control system.
But NASA, Amazon and Lockheed Martin, a company that builds Orion Rocket is working on the best way to implement Alexa and WebEx.
“We are thinking about the situation when people are bent in a chair, have gloves or are not involved in several tasks but still want to access information or to be able to control some kind of device with their voices,” Reports quoted Rubenson.
In the future, Amazon’s voice assistant can also help alleviate psychological and insulation related problems that can be owned astronauts in space.
