‘Wait & watch’ on Booster Jabs for Sputnik v

Written by news2in

Gurgaon: While frontline workers and health care in the state will be given a booster dose from January 10, about a thousand of those who have taken Sputnik V vaccines have to wait longer.
Like other vaccines that use the same composition for the first and second doses, Sputnik v uses two different components.
The Russian-made vaccine has two types of adenovirus vectors – RAD26 for first shots and RAD5 for the second.
Because the center has clarified that the “mixed and compatibility” vaccine will not be permitted, the recipient must get a booster shot from the same vaccine.
“We will give a booster only on those who have covaxin or covishield.
There are no booster shots for sputnik at this time,” Virender Ahwawat said, the state immunization officer.
“There are many frontline workers and health care who have taken sputnik shots.
We have written to the center of their concerns but has not received any clarification.
So, we have to wait and watch.” Mohan Lal, a 35-year-old hospital worker at City, take sputnik in July.
“You can imagine how important it is for me to take a booster shot because we again witnessed the increase in Covid cases,” he said.
Veeni (36), a nurse who also took Sputnik’s shot, said, “Many health workers are infected again.
We cannot be peaceful unless there is clarity on Booster’s shot.” According to the official Twitter Handle Sputnik V, it has developed a booster.
“Sputnik lights are based on AD26 vectors and are universal amplifiers for other vaccines to all mutations.
AD26 increases produce growing antibodies & t-cells to omicron …,” said a tweet.
