Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government is considering enabling the main minister to appoint representatives of Chancellor – the power is now among the Governor who is also a state-run university chancellor.
The government is consulting with legal experts in this matter.
In the assembly on Thursday, Minister M K Stalin said the government could introduce resolutions about this issue during the upcoming budget session.
PMK G floor leader G k semen, while participating in the debate about the Thanksgiving movement about the speech of the governor, saying there are many problems about the university including delays in the appointment of VCS.
He advocated for VC appointment by the minister’s own head.
It will end the problem surrounding the promise of VCS at the state university, he said.
CM discussed with experts to take over the strength of the governor in the appointment of VCS, the Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi, added that the government appointed VC in many states.
“I want to tell BJP members (here) that even in Gujarat, where our Narendra PM served as the previous minister, CM has appointed VCS since 1949,” said Ponmudi.
“PM we realized it.
You (BJP MLAS) can take this for PM notice,” said Ponmudi.
He showed that the Maharashtra government introduced the amendment (The Maharashtra Public University Act 2016) to empower him to appoint VCS.
After sunbathing between the West Bengal government and the Governor of the State, the government appointed a representative of Chancellor recently.
Similar Tussle is happening in neighboring countries too.
“To resolve such problems, the state government must have the power to appoint VCS.
We feel so.
Before the next assembly session, the decision will be taken,” he said.
Intervention at this stage, Stalin said the government would provide a resolution in assembly in this matter.
PMK and MNM welcome cm announcements.
Actor-Turn-Polocy Kamal Haasan Makkal Maiyam welcomed the cm announcement.
The party has issued a statement saying the government must appoint VC not the governor.
The leader of the PMK youth wing and MP Rajya Sabha Anbumani Ramadoss welcomed the CM announcement and noted that the body generally had adopted such resolution recently.
He tweeted that PMK will support government initiatives.
Since R Ravi considers the office as governor in September last year, he has called a VCS meeting to discuss the issue of the university.
The government is uncomfortable with such a meeting because Ravi seems to ask VC to implement national education policies.
