Mysuru: MySuru Zoo celebrated Gorilla Demba’s birthday, who was nine years old on Friday, by serving her food in her home.
This is his first birthday celebration in India.
He was taken to Mysuru Zoo along with his brother Thabo, 14, from Germany in August 2021.
Zoo authorities have continued the tradition of celebrating Demba’s birthday on European zoo stripes where animal birthdays are celebrated every year.
Executive Director Zoo Mysuru Ajit Kulkarni said the zoo also celebrated animal birthdays every year.
Each animal guards like elephants serve them special food to mark celebrations.
There will be no change in a diet but the food is presented differently.
Demba is also given fruits and vegetables arranged in stylish ways.
Meanwhile, Demba’s recording celebrates his birthday by eating fruits to be viral.
Many visitors to zoos who see a glimpse of the cage to an open area where zookepers have arranged watermelons and chopped cucumbers.
After a long wait, Zoo Mysuru received a pair of gorillas in Demba and Thabo from Germany.
The zoo is the only facility in India to accommodate gorillas.
Previously, Polo, a gorilla, had entertained Lakh visitors at the zoo for more than two decades before he died in 2014.
Since then the zoo has tried his best to display gorillas again and get gorillas from Germany five months.
