Panaji: At the end of the second round and the most likely is the final receipt for 2021-22, four state private engineering colleges have 380 seats without takers.
This year, towards the end of the revenue round, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) even allowed students who have not answered the cave entrance test (GCET) to claim the available seats.
However, this produces only 10-15 jobs filled with non-GCET students.
Of the 380 seats that were not claimed, the maximum 200 was left untouched at the Institute of Rayeshwar Engineering and Information Technology based in Shiroda (Srieit).
During the last academic year, nearly 50% of seats in four private engineering universities were not filled.
This figure has dropped to a little more than 32% this year, which can be caused by a new government scheme to determine the cost of a technical program at the private institute.
Goa Engineering College (GEC), Farmagudi, which is the only state government engineering Institute, as usual, see all 450 charts filled.
Seventy seats were empty at Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, and the Institute of Technology and Design of Agnel (AITD), Assagao.
In Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE) based on Verna, 40 seats did not find the takers.
“Most jobs are seen in the flow of machinery and electronic engineering.
This is a reversal of trends, along with three years ago, these two streams are the most preferred by students.
Now, students are seen choosing more for computer engineering and the flow,” said an official .
In GEC, all existing program seats were taken, but efforts to reopen the mining technical program had failed.
Receipt to the program has been terminated a few years ago for takers, and the state government has given approval to continue receiving to the program for 2021-22.
However, officials say that not a single student shows interest in this program, and therefore, the first year of mining techniques will not be able to start this academic year.
The number of Jobs First in the engineering program in Goa began to rise after the chair was enhanced across the college to be able to introduce a quota for the economically weaker part (EWS).
