Nagpur: Even though the archiving of new cases related to family disputes has fallen during the Covid-19 pandemic, the pendency has increased in the family court here in the last three years.
However, the number of pairs towards divorce through joint agreement has increased significantly.
The number of cases as followed in 2021 was 787, which was the highest in the last five years.
Replying to RTI’s request, the court supervisor informed that 7,995 cases were delayed in 2020 and the number rose to 8,863 cases at the end of 2021, the leap of 868 cases.
In 2019, the number of cases delayed was 7.304.
On the other hand, case filing declined in the last three years.
While 4,028 cases were institutionalized in 2019, the number was reduced to 2,345 in 2020 and 3,263 in 2021.
