Guwahati: The branch of the Assam Police Crime damaged the racket involved in the smuggling of the Pinang from Myanmar through Mizoram, Meghalaya and Assam to another part of the country, and arrested the mastermind from Guwahati on Monday.
The police have identified the person arrested as Bidyut Sinha, a resident of the Gotanagar Guwahati.
He has been ordered on several accusations under the IPC, including a criminal conspiracy (part 120b), theft (section 379), dishonestly accepting stolen property (section 411), forgery (section 465), forgery for cheating purposes (section 468) and use fake documents as original (section 471).
Police Commission, Guwahati, Harmeet Singh said: “Sirih’s shipment is pumped to Mizoram through the Indo-Myanmar border.
Smugglers transport them to Barak Valley Assam from Mizoram and pass by Meghalaya before entering Guwahati.
They use Meghalaya as a safe route to smuggle betel nuts.
“The case was registered with Crime Branch on January 25 after the orders of Himanta’s head minister could be smuggling holster.
