Mangaluru: The problem of excessive water bills for domestic consumers was taken to the notification of the Chair at the General Council meeting at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Monday.
Corps Corporator Lancelot Pinto raised this problem and said that the decision taken to let go of water bills in the previous water has not been applied to force people to pay excessive water bills.
The opposition congress has demanded a revised water rate.
The minimum monthly rate for 24,000 liters of water is Rs 65 and revised last year.
At present, the tariff is Rs 56 per month, but the minimum amount of water has been reduced to 8,000 liters.
As a result, people were forced to pay Rs 168 per month for 24,000 liters of water.
Commissioner MCC Akshy Shridhar said: “If there are certain cases where consumers get a large amount of water bills, then it can be taken to the executive engineer notification.” The Freedom Fighter Board statue approved a proposal to install Kedambadi Bronze Statue of Ramayya Gowda, who had led the rebellion against England in 1837, two decades before the first war of Indian Independence in 1857, at Bavuta Gudde in Mangaluru.
Previously, Deputy Commissioner Dakshina Kannada had written to the Kannada and Cultural Department who was seeking funds for the installation of the statue.
Thus, the department gives 10 lakh sanctions.
It is estimated that Rs 40 Lakh is needed for the installation of sculptures.
Kedambadi Ramayya Gowdara Smaraka Ustuvari Samithi has also submitted a proposal to MCC at the same time.
MCC has decided to bear the remaining costs.
BJP Corporator Shakeela Kava demanded that the government land 6.16-acre in Padua must be acquired by the PKS and stated a public playground.
The Board decided to write to the deputy commissioner to declare the land as a public playground.
