Ranchi: Health infrastructure in Jharkhand will get a shot in the arm through an ambitious telemedicine project center for mental health.
The Ranchi-based Psychiatry (CIP) Central Institute is one of the 23 centers of excellence in the country which will work together with the Nimhans based in Bangalore to expand mental health care to people who live in remote parts of this country General and certain countries.
The CIP director, Dr.
Basudeb Das, said the Institute had run the telemedicine center after a burst in cases related to mental health after a pandemic.
“Our psychiatrists and psychologists provide counseling through 14 cellphone numbers other than toll-free help channels for callers from all over the country but because this problem has now received the attention of the Ministry of Finance Union and find the mention in budget proposals, we hope to get infrastructure support too,” he said .
Although the Ministry of Finance has not shared the modality of the National Tele Mental Health Program, Finance Minister Union Nirmala Sitharaman made an announcement in his budget speech on Tuesday.
“To provide better access to quality mental health counseling and maintenance services, ‘National Mental Health Program’ is being proposed.
This will include a network of 23 tele-mental health centers of excellence, with Nimhans to be the center of nodal,” he said.
Das said this scheme will help them penetrate into remote corners where reaching it difficult.
