Melbourne: Former Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting on Saturday said that the resignation of Justin Langer as head coach marked a sad day for Australian cricket.
Cricket Australia on Saturday accepted the resignation of Justin Langer’s team head.
“Justin was offered a short-term extension for his current contract, which unfortunately he chose not to accept,” said the official release of the Australian Kricket.
“This is a very sad day as far as Australian cricket and if you look back, it is really poor six months overall by the way that Australia’s Cricket has handled some of the better people in Australian Cricket – Justin Langer and Team Paine – and I think it’s almost embarrassing as they handle the two cases, “Ponting told ABC Radio, as reported by Espncricinfo.
“He should not have full support from the council.
I know Justin as I did, he really wanted to continue the role, because he was supposed to be after what the best training period of his international career had just won the T20 World Cup and then the result 4-0 at Abu, “he added.
The contract extension offered to Justin is the result of a thorough review process that evaluates many factors including future team requirements and upcoming match schedules.
This extension was approved by the CA Board and was put in Justin last night.
It includes the opportunity to defend the T20 World Cup title in Australia at the end of this year.
“It looks like a very strange time for a coach to leave.
Read the tea sounded like a few – and when he [langer] told me a small group in the play group and several other staff around the team – not once didn’t like the way he left,” Ponting said.
“It’s enough to force a man who has put his life and heart and his soul into Australian cricket and doing sensational work in reversing the culture and the way the Australian team has been seen in the past few years to push it out from there work,” he added.
Langer was appointed as coach of the men’s team in 2018 after the sandpaper gate that saw David Warner, Steve Smith served a year distribution.
Under Langer, Australia managed to win the T20 2021 World Cup and then Abu.
“Justin is my great soul mate and I know how excited he is about Australian coaching work and that he wants to continue and become the best coach and have the best cricket team in the world.
I think Pat has also been included a difficult situation as captain, if not only him and The other players came to him and let him know that maybe they thought Justin was not the right person then I thought it puts pat in a difficult position too, “said Ponting.
“If he rises to the front foot and supports Justin they will not be in a position to move it.
I am close to Justin, we are like brother but I am not too involved in this, as much as giving him a pat behind and putting the arms here and there, It is impossible for me to change this way to.
What happened today I feel will come for a long time, even looking back before the world T20 trophy there is a lot of speculation there, “he added.
