Guwahati: Congress can offer AIDF to project the ‘non-political’ consensus candidate for one of the two chairs of Sabha (RS) from Assam, if both parties failed to achieve understanding.
In the state assembly of 126 members, anti-BJP parties and candidates hope to send at least one member to the upper house.
Elections tend to be held in March for two rs seats from Assam.
The main opposition party, Congress, has provided responsibility for the leader of the Legislative Party of the Debabrata Saikia Congress to communicate with other parties to complete opposition candidates.
“Congress has not taken a radical establishment in Rajya Sabha candidate.
We can finally approve a non-political personality, if consensus cannot be contacted,” said the source at Congress to Ti on Saturday.
The Congress leader said they could still manage 43 votes, another from the number needed to choose one of the two RS candidates.
Saikia said, “That (problem) is now open for discussion.
AIUD also demands that their choice must be an opposition prospective, whereas, becoming the biggest opposition party in the Assembly, Congress insisted that we must be given the opportunity..
Someone must go down,” he said.
He added that the Congress was ready to support AIudF candidates to be elected in the next RS election, every time more seats fell from the country.
In March 2020, Congress and Badruddin Aiudf led by Ajmal jointly projected senior journalists and anti-CAA activists, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who was elected to the upstream House of Parliament.
The closeness between the two parties then set a rolling ball for the establishment of a large alliance for the assembly poll of 2021, where the congress and AIDF led the ‘Mahajot’ opposition.
Aiudf Supremo Ajmal said his party had to get the opportunity to nominate their candidates.
“AIUDF always supports the congress.
This is our turn.
Even with 25 MLA, Congress cannot ensure their candidate’s victory without 15 mlash aiudf,” said Ajmal.
The fate of opposition candidates will also depend on MLA Independent Gogoi and Lone CPM Legislator ManoRanjan Talukdar.
Congress has 27 MLA in the State Assembly, including Sherman Ali Ahmed and Sashikanta Das, which has been suspended from the party, and cannot choose candidates supported by Congress.
CPM sources say MLA they will be asked to choose a candidate supported by Congress, even though the left party will try to falsify the opposition union until the end.
Raijor Dal General Secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi said MLA Akhil Gogoi they would choose opposition candidates who would have a high chance to win.
“The question of our MLA selection that supports BJP does not appear,” he said.
Considering the difficult attitude of Raijor Dal against AIudf, Akhil is likely to choose Congress candidates, his maid said.
