Haveri: Rural infrastructure in India is abundant in Lacunae, and one of the biggest problems that must be turned on by the villagers every day is the lack of efficient drainage networks.
Haveri Zilla Panchayat (ZP) seems to have recorded this problem, and has started the construction of the drainage network, the total length will be 300 km.
The work on this project will be carried out under the umbrella of the National Rural Employment Assurance Scheme Mahatma Gandhi (MGNREG).
Before construction began on a drainage network, topographic surveys were carried out in the district villages.
The survey was recommended by ZP after defects detected in the existing sewer.
The survey findings will help streamline the flow of waste, and ensure segregation is carried out efficiently.
This will have additional benefits to ensure that water supply is not contaminated to the village.
The authorities have completed a survey, which has so far covered 714 villages under the jurisdiction of 218 grams of panthayats.
The Chief Executive of Haveri ZP Mohammad Roshan said that the first Greywater management project had been implemented in Kodiyal Village in Ranebennur Taluk.
“This project is a naturally done initiative without using any machine.
Recycled water by the Greywater system joins the Tungabhadra River.
The water is purified naturally,” Roshan said, who ordered topographic surveys throughout the village after the success of the initiative in Kodiyal.
Roshan said that the waterways were built in a ‘unscientific’ way in most villages, with gravitational levels not checked before construction.
“The waste disposal has not flowed as it should, impact on the health of residents, and dry cash.
So, we decided to conduct a topographic survey, which has been completed in 714 villages.
We have built a network of drainage in 43 villages, where the waste flow has been simplified, “CEO ZP said.
A Panchayat development officer said that the water channel, built using data from the survey, was much easier to maintain.
“Most of these channels have never been blocked,” he said.
Malikarjun Balehosur, a GP member for Koradur Village in Haveri Taluk, said that the engineers did not bother conducting a topographic survey while building the previous water channel.
“Now, ZP has initiated this survey, which has helped ensure the construction of waterways at the right level, thanks to the efforts of the CEO of ZP Mohammad Roshan,” Balehosur said.
