Kolkata: A 12-year-old boy died after reported falling from the roof of the 11-storey apartment building in a luxury condo on the circular canal road, close to Subhas Sarobar, on Sunday night.
The police were investigating whether he fell when trying to imitate a action described in the Japanese Anime series, which he had watched on his cellphone.
The child, the VIII student of the school class who has a good reputation at Park Circus, is a younger than two siblings.
Phoolan police said he was found unconscious near the swimming pool complex around 7pm on Sunday.
He rushed to a nearby nursing home, where he was declared dead.
“Prima facie, the boy was suspected of falling from the roof of the 11-storey building,” said an officer.
Priyabrata Roy, DCP (east suburban), said it was too early to conclude whether the death of the boy was an accident or suicide.
“Family members told us that he behaved normally, and that there was no reason for him to be angry,” said Roy Toi.
“He is a sharp audience of the Japanese web series, our probe has revealed so far.
Because the incident happened as soon as he finished watching the series, the link could not be ignored, and we investigated it.
So far, we also have not found a suicide note.
But We will talk to family members as soon as they get their initial surprise, “he added.
Toi can’t talk to the boy’s family.
The police source said the boy’s cellphone, “which has several stored animated films”, can help them solve this case.
“We have found that all through the duration of the pandemic, the door to the roof must be locked at 6pm every day.
But the incident was reported one hour after this, showing that the door opened or the child had accessed the terrace before the door was locked.
We will record the guard statement Security and get CCTV recordings, “said an investigative officer.
