Mumbai: BMC, which reconstructs the Himalayan bridge in CSMT, has ruled out the possibility of having an escalator for now.
There was a request from the train to add escalators, said civil society officials.
The reconstruction of the Himalaya Foot Over-Bridge (FOB) began in August.
The original FOB collapsed in March 2019, killing seven people and injured more than 30.
The replacement is expected to appear at the end of the year.
BMC said he had considered the escalator but there was a technical challenge for it, including routine maintenance.
This is also not part of the reconstruction contract.
Instead, the elevator may be installed in the next stage, an official said.
“The reconstructed bridge will have two stairs out.
However, there are no plans to add escalators,” said Chief Engineer Satish Thosar of the Bridges Department.

There were demands from several Corators to have subways too, but officials said many utilities walking under the road made it impossible.
“Also, DN Road, becomes a very busy stretch, cannot be closed for the traffic movement for a prolonged time,” said an official.
Activists say that because there are two ladder landings for the bridge, someone can be converted into an escalator easily.
RTI activists Anil Galgali said the suggestions provided by the train were good.
“FOB enters the location of the train finally and the request by the train must be considered.
Escalator, if installed, will be useful for different senior citizens and also,” he said.
The original bridge is mild steel and found corrosion at certain points.
This time stainless steel will prevent corrosion by the sea breeze.
Following the accident, the police had filed firs against several BMC officials because of negligence that led to death.
Causes of collisions in accordance with the initial investigation report are the failure of the floor beam connection with floor welding connections and frame due to weakness / corrosion welds.
