Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) has started the renovation and development of Suando, the birthplace of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das in Puri Regency, under the project to turn it into a legacy village.
A museum, renovation of the Utkalmani Ancestral House (Permata Odisha), Village Beauty, road construction and other facilities are part of the project.
Ancestors from leading social thinkers will be converted into museums, a curatorial plan that is being reviewed by the Ministry of Culture.
At present, the construction of the building of ancestral houses and the museum is ongoing.
The transformation work will be completed at the end of the year, said the senior work department official.
A bronze statue of 15 feet from Utukani will soon be installed in Suando as part of the state government’s plan to turn it into a village inheritance.
Alas where the statue will also be installed will also be an icon, said sources in OBCC, which is an executive agent.
The road from Pattanaikia Chhaka along the NH-316 which connects to UTKALMANI village will be widened as part of the project.
The state government has also planned several infrastructure work such as the construction of a shopping complex, information center and inheritance site conservation in the village under the project.
The transformation work began after the visit of Secretary 5T V K Pandian to the village.
The transformation plan was prepared by Indian National Trust for the Heritage of Arts (Intach), while the project was also discussed with villagers.
It has been decided that the Khondalite stone block supplied by Odisha Mining Corporation will be used for transformation work.
