Guwahati: The Chairman of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma said that the state government would launch a web portal on May 10 where citizens, which are uncomfortable with the names of where they live, can suggest new names for their cities or villages.
Sarma, when conducting a Pusu Bhumi for the second medical college on the Kalapahar and MMC campus in this city on Monday, announced that the hospital would be called Pragjyotishpur Medical College and not Kalapahar, which has destroyed the Dewi Kamakhya temple.
“I see no reason why we have to remember Kalaphar who destroyed Kamakhya Temple.
RHI is a fit case to change the name of the hospital as a pragjyotishpur (ancient name Assam),” he said.
He added, “There are many places in Assam whose names do not feel comfortable in saying.
Some names of places are seen as insulting to several communities while some names are different from our civilization.
On Guwahati, people have changed many of their regional names.” TNN.
