Oslo: Norway delayed the next big step in canceling restrictions related to Covid-19 pandemic until the end of the month at first, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said on Monday.
“There is a risk that the Delta variant will cause a wave of fourth infection in the population that is not vaccinated, among those who only receive a dose or in vulnerable groups,” Solberg said.
The World Health Organization has said Delta a global dominant variant of Covid-19, raising worries whether the existing vaccine will work against it.
In Norway, it could be the dominant variant in Norway this month, Norwegian Health Minister said.
Nearly two-thirds of adults have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 37% of adults fully vaccinated, according to the Norwegian Public Health Institute.
