Geneva: Rich countries should not order a booster shot for a vaccinated population while other countries have not received the Covid-19 vaccine, the World Health Organization said on Monday.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said death again increased from Covid-19 pandemic, Delta variant became dominant, and many countries have not received enough vaccine doses to protect their health workers.
“The Delta variant tore the world at a hot speed, driving a new surge in Covid-19 cases and death,” said Tedros, noting that a very contagious variant, first detected in India, has now been found in more than 104 countries.
“The global gap in the supply of covid-19 vaccine is very uneven and unfair.
Some countries and regions actually order millions of booster doses, before other countries have supply to vaccinate their health workers and the most vulnerable,” Tedro said.
He chose the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine maker as a company that aims to provide booster shots in countries where there has been a high vaccination rate.
Tedros said they should direct their dosage to Covax, a vaccine sharing program, especially for middle and poor income countries.
Anger, embarrassing to the head of whose scientist, Soumya Swaminathan, said the global health agency has so far not seen evidence that shows that booster shots are needed for those who have received a full vaccine.
While booster may be needed one day, there is no evidence they need.
“It must be based on science and data, not in the company’s individual states that their vaccines need to be given as a dose of booster,” he said.
Mike Ryan, the Head of the WHO emergency program, said: “At present, we condemn hundreds of millions of people not to have protection.” We will look back at anger, and we will look back with shame “, if countries use valuable ones.
The dose on booster shots, when people who are vulnerable are still dying without vaccines elsewhere, Ryan said.” This is a person – People who want to have their cakes and eat it, and then they want to make a cake again and eat it too, “he said.
