Brussels: The European Union will try to convince Bosnia’s readiness to recognize their country one day, according to the internal documents seen by Reuters, after the European Union diplomatic records have not officially collected doubts about Brussels’s commitment.
The record, circulating among EU officials in April, proposed a border re-border along the ethnic line in West Balkans in an effort to unblock jammed reforms in the region.
It caused anxiety in Bosnia, who aspire to join the EU and NATO.
“The EU repeated its firm commitment to the European Union Perspective Bosnia and Herzegovina as a single, United and Sovereign country,” said 24-page documents prepared for Tuesday’s official meeting with UE Foreign Policy Head Josep Borrell.
It also urges a series of difficult reforms before Bosnia can officially become a candidate to start an EU membership talk.
The unofficial record was first leaked into the Slovenian media and was considered from Slovenia Prime Minister Janez Jana, who reportedly sent him as a proposal on how to deal with the region.
Slovenia holds an EU presidency of six months spinning from July 1.
Jansa denied sending documents and accused “fake media” trying to endanger Slovenian efforts to help integrate Western Balkan countries to the EU.
The EU has not commented.
The record said the national problems of Serbia, Croatia, and Albania were unresolved were obstacles to integrating areas to the EU and said they had to be resolved by creating larger Serbia, greater Croatia and larger Albania.
