Marseille: A man suspected of stinging a 13-year-old boy in a cannibalism attack in South France has been shot dead by the police, said the prosecutor on Monday.
The police made a terrible discovery of a body and cut off Sunday night in an apartment in the city of Tarascon rented by a 32-year-old man with a psychiatric disorder, the Public Prosecutor Laurent Gumbau told AFP.
Gumbau said that an investigation of the loss of a boy from a treatment house in the city of Marseille, 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the east, has led the police to the address at Tarascon.
“The body is found perhaps from an underage child,” he said, adding that pieces of meat had been torn from the shoulder, triggered the suspicion of cannibalism.
The man, who has a previous confidence in acts of violence, fled the apartment on the roof, according to the neighbor.
The police finally found it in another location in Tarascon three hours later and shot him dead, the prosecutor said.
He added that the suspect did not seem to be armed at the time of his death and that he had not been formally identified as the killer whose body was found in the apartment.
The police surveillance body is investigating the state of murder and the autopsy has been ordered to both the body.
