Paris: French soldiers have killed two members of the “terrorist” group of eigs, which according to France have relations with the Islamic State, in Mali, said the French army minister Florence Parly said on Thursday.
Parary statement said the operation had occurred overnight in the Menaka region in coordination with the United States Army.
“This latest operation highlighted our determination to continue the battle of armed terrorist organizations, working with our partners in Sahel and in coordination with our European and American allies,” said the statement.
France is in the process of reshaping its military presence in the area of Sahel West Africa, which includes Mali, where France is at the forefront of the battle of Islamic militia groups.
Mali has been thrown into political turmoil since the military junta overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in August 2020.
