Paris: More than 4 billion doses of anti-covid vaccines have been given throughout the world, eight months after vaccination drive began, according to the AFP count on Thursday.
Global injections have slowed: this fourth billion achieved in 30 days, while it only took 26 days to reach the previous one.
The first and second billion each was achieved after around 140 and 40 days.
Forty of the four billion shots had been given in China (1.6 billion).
India (451 million) and the United States (343 million) form the trio of countries that have provided the most jav.
In terms of populations among countries with more than one million people, the United Arab Emirates are leaders: 168 first and second doses given per 100 population.
Uruguay follows (137), then Bahrain (134).
The UAE approached having 70 percent of the population was fully vaccinated while Uruguay and Bahrain both reached more than 60 percent.
After this, leading countries are Qatar, Chile and Canada (129 shots per 100 residents), Israel (128), Singapore (125), England, Mongolia and Denmark (121) and Belgium (121).
These countries have entirely vaccinated more than half of their population.
Not far this is China (111), United States (104) and the European Union (103).
The US and the EU have entirely vaccinated almost half of their population while China did not communicate this information.
Most poor countries are now beginning to vaccinate, especially thanks to the Covax scheme and dose contributions that are not used by rich countries, but vaccination coverage remains very unequal: high-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) which is given an average of 97 The dose per 100 population compared with only 1.6 doses in low-income countries.
On average 52 shots have been injected per 100 residents worldwide.
Four countries have not been vaccinated: Burundi, Eritrea, Haiti and North Korea.
