MySuru: A 24-year-old young man, who was pushed to the Apollo Hospital here in critical condition after a road accident, will continue to live through the other five.
Five Darshan’s organs were harvested and transplanted after his family agreed to donate his organs.
For the first time, a green corridor was created from the hospital to Mysuru Airport located in Mandakalli on Jalan Raya MySuru-Ooty to transport hearts to Chennai based in Chennai MGM Healthcare for transplantation.
Apollo Hospitals Vice President N G Bharteesha Reddy has been grateful to the police and airport authorities and security personnel to facilitate the transportation of his heart to Chennai on Friday afternoon.
According to Reddy, this is the first time an organ transported in rented flight from MySuru.
Darshan, who supported life for two days, was declared dead brain in early Friday.
His organs were harvested around 14:45, the hospital said, adding his heart, two kidneys, one heart, and two corneas harvested and transplanted in five individuals in Mysore, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
While one kidney and liver are transplanted at Mysuru Apollo Hospital here, another kidney is sent to the recipient of a child in Bengaluru.
Cornea has been given to JSS Eye Bank (Mysuru).
Sources said Darshan, Gundlupet’s native, met with an accident on Jalan on January 18.
Electric leaves behind his wife, babies and parents are two months old.
