Coimbatore: A 34-year-old woman was attacked by an unknown man in Coimbatore on Thursday night.
The woman, who suffered burns on her face, was treated at a private hospital.
Victims, identified as Radha from Dharmapuri District, is a construction worker.
Police said the woman separated from her husband, Stalin, a few months ago because of a difference.
He lived in a rented house in Ammenkulam in Coimbatore City, police said.
Around 9pm on Thursday, he returned from a grocery store near his residence when an unknown man, who came on a motorcycle, intercepted him.
He poured acid – which he brought in a bottle – on his face.
When the woman lifted an alarm, the man managed to escape from the place.
Neighbors took him to a private hospital.
The preliminary question revealed that the attacker was not her husband.
However, the police planned to conduct an investigation with her husband.
The police competition course registered the case below section 326 A (voluntarily causing sad pain by using acid etc.,) from the Criminal Code.
