Mangaluru: Afghan students are currently in their last year or those who tend to complete their learning courses this year, have requested a visa extension for at least six months ahead.
A total of 58 students study in the city and they, 11 have returned home.
Some of them live with their families.
On the sidelines of this meeting, Nasir Ahmad Shafiei, a PhD student told TII, our main concern was an extension of the visa and passport update.
Visas of several students, especially those in the past year, can expire in September, and visa extensions for around six months will be useful.
We also asked the Indian government to provide Afghanistan graduating students, work permits, and refugee status so that they resolve their problems, especially financial problems.
We hope that the Indian government will provide humanitarian assistance to help students and researchers trapped in Afghanistan so they can return and not abandoned from the academic year.
The students said that nearly 100 students chosen for educational support by the Government of India could be given an emergency visa from Afghanistan to come here because the academic year began.
They hope that the government will help students who want to return to reunite with their families in Afghanistan.
Some students say that it hurts to see certain incidents and have a night without sleep.
They are mostly related to family through text messages.
The women said that their dreams were destroyed.
They came to India to learn and then return and work.
They worry about the future.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar ensure all the possibilities of cooperation for their safety and their concern will be shared with the state government.
The state government appointed additional DGP Kumar as Nodal officers to coordinate with the central government because bringing back countries trapped in Afghanistan.
